Virginia B. Spivey is an independent art historian and educator based near Washington DC interested in open education, critical digital pedagogy, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Virginia B. Spivey is an independent art historian and educator based near Washington DC. While her scholarly expertise involves gender, performance, and the body in late 20th century art, her work since 2009 has focused on issues of teaching and learning across education and cultural sectors. She currently maintains a projects-based career creating digital content and instructional design for Smarthistory.org and other Open Educational Resources while teaching part-time at the Maryland Institute College of Art and online for Rutgers University's Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities. Since 2014, she has been a part of the leadership collective at AHTR (arthistoryteachingresources.org), an online community of practice and resource repository, where she now serves as Editor in Chief and as Co-founding Editor of Art History Pedagogy and Practice, an open access journal for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Art History (SoTL-AH).
