I am a PhD candidate in the Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I'm interested broadly in cultural studies of science and technology, queer theory, media studies, and STS.
I'm in my fifth year of PhD studies in the ICR at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to coming here I received a BA in Psychology from the University of Calgary and an MA in Humanities from York University in Toronto.
I've been here too long not to have a concrete dissertation project in mind but sadly I don't. Not really. I enjoy new media things, but my academic work is more oriented toward social theory and technology. Lately I've been doing work on mobile phones, looking at how they figure into systems of power. As much as I try to avoid it I'm frequently drawn to Foucault, but I'm actively trying to mix things up as far as theory goes. My next prelim is on "Technology and Sexuality" so if you have any thoughts or ideas be sure to send them my way. I'm interested in looking at sex toys especially as they relate network technology as well as the explosion of user-generated pornography on the web.
Say hi if you feel like doing so.
