Brief Bio: 

Stephanie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She teaches courses in artificial intelligence, database management systems, and software engineering. Her research interests include applications of artificial intelligence and STEAM - science, technology, engineering, ARTS (+humanities), and mathematics. Before teaching she work developed software in the aerospace industry. Currently she is developing an immersive learning environment for introductory engineering and computer science courses and developing materials for teaching AI the way we teach lab sciences.

Full Bio: 

Stephanie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Special Assistant to the Chief Academic Officer for Graduate Studies at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. She teaches courses in artificial intelligence, database management systems, and software engineering. Her research interests include applications of artificial intelligence including interdisciplinary new media applications, natural language understanding, argumentation, and analogical reasoning, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ARTS, and mathematics). Before teaching she work developed software in the aerospace industry. She is currently directing students on two NSF-funded project. The VESLL project is developing a Virtual Engineering Science Learning Lab in Second Life to provide an immersive learning environment for introductory engineering and computer science courses. TAILS is developing materials for teaching artificial intelligence through an experimental approach modeled after the lab sciences.
