I received an undergraduate degree in Art and Education from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Currently, I am working on a Ph.D. in English with a Creative Writing (Fiction) emphasis at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In Fall 2009, I was honored with a John C. Hodges Teaching Award from UTK’s English Department.
My academic interests are in rhetoric and narrative theory, as well as the study and production of digital/interactive texts. For my dissertation, I am writing a novel. Also, I have been drafting a screenplay and learning toolsets to create video game add-ons for fan-based communities. Whether in the classroom, the creative writing workshop, or a graduate seminar, my research questions typically revolve around, “What is a narrative?” and “How do different media use narrative to create, or modify, 'story' and 'literacy'?”
