Personal Information
I am a PhD candidate in the English department at St. John's University in Queens, NY. I am interested in digital rhetoric, Black feminism, and popular culture. As digital humanities becomes an increasingly popular field of study, it is important to include discussions of race, class, and gender. It is also necessary to build connections between the academy and the real world. My in-progress dissertation project looks at popular culture, blogs, and social media to examine new forms of protest, the digital public, and the ways that race, gender, sexuality, and resistance manifest themselves in these spaces.
I currently teach courses on digital rhetoric and writing, literature of the global Afro-diaspora, and global feminist literature. I incorporate technology in my teaching, and I have developed creative projects for my students that focus on 21st century literacies and skills that are essential to higher education pedagogy.
