Brief Bio: 

Elliot A. Jarbe has a primary focus in phenomenologies of the body as seen through networks of space, time, place, movement and change. Political ontologies and productions of subjectivity are key features in his work, as are returns to a Marxist/Hegelian metaphysics of presence. His philosophical background is in 20th century French thought (particularly Merleau-Ponty and Bergson) and post-Kantian German Idealism (Hegel and Schelling).

Full Bio: 

Elliot A. Jarbe received BA degrees in Philosophy and English from SUNY Binghamton University, an advanced Certificate in Philosophy from Oxford University, and an MA in Literature and Critical Thought from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Centre for the Study of Theory and Criticism at The University of Western Ontario, he conducted research at Cornell University in their Society for the Humanities. He is a member of the APA, SPEP, ACLA, NEMLA and the Society for Environmental and Architectural Phenomenology (EAP). His research is primarily concerned with phenomenologies of the body as seen through networks of space, time, place, movement and change. Political ontologies and productions of subjectivity are key features in his work, as are returns to a Marxist/Hegelian metaphysics of presence. His philosophical background is in 20th century French thought (particularly Merleau-Ponty and Bergson) and post-Kantian German Idealism (Hegel and Schelling). His current research is geared toward concepts of state, space and the city. This focus is on decayed architectures of the metropolis and how engagement with these sites acts as a channel for cultural encounters and formations of identity.
