Brief Bio:

My name is Michael J. Lee and I am a PhD candidate in the Information School at the University of Washington. I am being advised by Andrew J. Ko and am a member of the DUB Group and USE Group. I received a Masters of Science in Information Science (MSIS) from the University of Washington and a Masters of Information Management and Systems (MIMS) from UC Berkeley. Prior to that, I worked as a software developer for the San Diego Supercomputer Center and received my B.S. in Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction from UC San Diego.

My major area of focus is in human-computer interaction (HCI). More specifically, I am interested in exploring how to keep people engaged and show measurable learning outcomes playing discretional educational games. For this purpose, I have created Gidget, an online puzzle game designed to teach debugging and programming concepts. To date, over 800 people have played the game online (in closed, controlled studies) and during in-person summer camps for teens at Oregon State University and the University of Washington.
