Matt Hale is a dual PhD student at Indiana University within the Folklore and Ethnomusicology and Communication and Culture departments where he studies visual and material culture, fandom, media reception and phenomenology of textuality, and the history of social theory and anthropological thought. He earned his B.A. in Anthropology and M.A. in Folklore from Western Kentucky University. He is the recipient of over a dozen academic honors including paper prizes, travel stipends, and research grants. His works have appeared in New Directions in Folklore, Steaming into a Future: A Steampunk Anthology, Folklore Forum, the Committee on the Anthropology of Science, Technology, and Computing Blog, and most recently, Western Folklore.
