Archaeologist and Professor (and former Chair) of Anthropology at Michigan State University, I have focused much of my research on the prehistoric Aztalan site in Wisconsin (AD 1000-1300). I have looked especially at the structure of the site and its mortuary practices. I spent several years collecting and creating a GIS and compilation of everything known about the site. I have also excavated a number of historic cemeteries, designing databases to manage the information recorded. Since 2005, a portion of my research has included the archaeology of university campuses; I created and direct Michigan State University’s unique Campus Archaeology Program, which conducts research and mitigation work on campus, as well as maintaining a high visibility social media presence.
