Laura Wagner is a doctoral candidate in anthropology at UNC Chapel Hill. At the time of the January 12, 2010 Haiti earthquake, she was conducting her dissertation research on household workers, human rights, and class relations in Port-au-Prince. In the weeks and months after the earthquake, her friends in Haiti began to send her photos and accounts, which led to the creation of the Stories from Haiti blog. She is currently working with a group of youth on a weekly writing workshop/"konbit" and writing articles while reformulating her doctoral research and trying to be useful in the post-earthquake landscape. Her evolving research interests include the anthropology of humanitarianism, anthropology of disaster, anthropology of human rights, and collaborative, engaged ethnographic research.
