Kẏra serves on the board of directors of the Free Culture Foundation and works as a campaigns organizer for the Free Software Foundation. They recently founded the Empowermentors Collective, a skillshare, activism, and discussion network for intersectionally marginalized people of color. Through a critical analysis of oppression, hierarchy, and domination, they view the harm of private ownership over software and media as it concentrates control over technology and telecommunications. They see radical potential in free software (often marketed as "open source software") and free culture to work against ableism, racism, cissexism, heterosexism, sexism, and classism. Through collaboration and coalition building, they are hoping to help realize that potential. Kẏra is also an undergraduate student at Hampshire College.
