Kelsey McGinnis is a PhD candidate in musicology at the University of Iowa. Her dissertation examines the role of music in the U.S. military’s reeducation program for German prisoners of war. Her work explores both the American attempts to “reorient” the Nazi mind and the organic development of musical cultures within individual POW camps throughout the United States. Kelsey is also a staff member at the Center for Human Rights in the University of Iowa College of Law, where she oversees an undergraduate certificate program in human rights and teaches courses on archives and activism, music and social justice, and human rights advocacy.
