I am a senior at the University of Southern California, currently completing my studies in Visual Anthropology, Gender Studies, and the Multimedia Scholarship program at USC’s Institute for Multimedia Literacy. I am interested in the intersection of material and visual culture with emerging technologies; expressive culture; media; education in a digital age; design for social change; issues of power and access; gender and sexuality; the body; museology; and methodology.
I am excited to be working as a research assistant on IML’s Literacies for the Near Future this year – a project that urges educators to rethink contemporary education in order to prepare for a future that is closer than we may imagine. I will be working with IML staff to develop, test and disseminate specific media projects designed to enhance youth literacy through media.
In addition, I will be working on my thesis projects, both as an IML student and as a Visual Anthropology student. I hope to explore new constructions of knowledge relating to visual culture and media, education, materiality and technology, while experimenting with research methodology. How are we redefining and transforming ourselves in a digital age?
