Joy C. Schaefer is a Comparative Literature doctoral candidate in the Department of Cultural Analysis & Theory at Stony Brook University, where she designs and teaches undergraduate courses such as French Film, Culture & Power and European Cinema: Crossing National Borders. She holds an M.A. in French Studies (New York University) and an Advanced Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies (SBU). Joy’s research interests include French, Spanish and British cinemas, North African/French crossings, (post)colonial and feminist theories, and politically engaged theories of affect and emotion. She is a regular contributor to the Blog of International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics and co-founder of Woman with a Movie Camera (from5to7.com). Her work will be published in The Quarterly Review of Film and Video this year.
