Joshua Clark Davis teaches writing and public history at Duke University. He currently co-directs "Media and the Movement," a digital oral history initiative based at UNC's Southern Oral History Program and funded by a NEH Collaborative Research Grant. Project collaborators are interviewing dozens of journalists of the Civil Rights and Black Power era and making those recordings publicly accessible online at http://mediaandthemovement.unc.edu. Joshua is also writing a book, "Head Shops and Whole Foods," which examines how social movements of the 1960s and '70s inspired entrepreneurs such as black booksellers and natural grocers to re-shape small business and consumer culture. The book is currently under contract with Columbia University Press' Studies in the History of U.S. Capitalism.
