I received my MFA in Poetry from McNeese State University and currently am pursuing a PhD in English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, concentrating in linguistics.
My interest in the digital humanities took a very long and windy road... After a number of years in the corporate IT world, I earned an MFA in poetry from McNeese State University. I then realized I wasn't ready to leave academia and so chose to pursue a PhD in English, at first concentrating in folklore, later to be seduced by the tools that linguistics offers. However, I still keep my thumb in the folklore pie, especially where text is concerned; that is, I'm interested in ways that folkloric events happen other than by way of face-to-face interaction. As far as my linguistics studies go, I'm currently focusing on using corpus linguistics' methods to examine poetry, playing in part with the idea of the intersection of writing technologies and speech.
