Beyond academic work, I am an avid fiction writer and songwriter, and I enjoy hiking and camping.

Full Bio:

My name is John Andelfinger, and I am a 2nd year Ph.D. student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the Composition and Applied Linguistics program.  I am currently a graduate assistant in the IUP School of Graduate Studies and Research - Thesis and Dissertation Office.  Prior to beginning my Ph.D. studies at IUP in fall of 2016, I worked as an adjunct writing instructor at Camden County College, Drexel University, Holy Family University, and Widener University.

In 2011, I received my M.A. in English from Arcadia University, and in 2006, I received my B.S. in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Prior to teaching writing, I taught public school music in the School District of Philadelphia (2008-2011) and Wildwood Crest School District (2007-2008).

As a researcher, I am interested in the intersections between writing, rhetoric, music, and sound as well as multimodality and sonic composition.  Further, I am interested in how digital technologies influence the ways in which we compose textually and sonically, and I hope to collaborate with scholars from various disciplines to research the above topics.

As a teacher, I enjoy understanding and practicing language and music pedagogy in ways that respect the important affordances and contributions of each discipline.  As an educator with experience and education in both fields, my writing pedagogy is very much informed by my previous studies and experiences as a music educator, and I hope to foster and promote increased collaboration between music and language teachers.

My creative interests include fiction writing and songwriting, and I enjoy playing the bassoon, saxophone, and guitar.
