Personal Information

First name:
Isabelle
Last name:
Ciaramitaro
Brief Bio:

I am a junior at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo Michigan. I am a history major with American studies and Women and Gender and Sexuality concentrations. I love learning and being in intellectual stimulating environments. Most of the research I have completed has surrounded post-antebellum 19th century and first half of the 20th century. I enjoy writing on issues surrounding the intersection between race and gender involving these time periods. I personally enjoy placing the present in dialogue with the past and my research as I feel it helps me understand both present and past society. Currently, I am looking to do research into the issue of empowerment and looking into whether it is a myth, possibly created by oppressors, or something attainable for the oppressed. I am currently a participant in the ACM program at the Newberry library in Chicago for the fall semester of 2014. I look forward to exploring their Civil War and Reconstruction collections.
