I'm a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of English at Michigan State University studying Victorian Literature and culture. My dissertation is about the narrative forms of philanthropic discourse in the nineteenth century, especially the ways that novelists experimented with narrative forms to differentiate them from the philanthropic movement and to critique philanthropic practices. I'm also working on a topic modeling project that attempts to understand if definitions of sympathy vary according to genre. This fall, I'm teaching an introduction to Digital Humanities course in the College of Arts and Letters at MSU.
