Emily F Brooks
Personal Information
Emily F. Brooks is an Assistant Professor of Digital Culture and Design at Coastal Carolina University. Her research and teaching intersect at book materiality, digital humanities, and children's media. Her most recent research project, The Unique Codex Digitization Project, argues that the other nonstandard book objects like touch-and-feel books, pop-up books, and treasure bindings can be studied through the same lens as artists' books in terms of playing with materiality. Her courses incorporate teaching students how to create prototypes based on choose-your-own adventure books, interactive/movable books, Augmented Reality artists' books, and bibliocircuitry. In 2018, she was awarded a scholarship from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the summer institute "The Book: Material Histories and Digital Futures," and continues to bridge the gap between creativity and humanistic study.
