Brief Bio:

Ryan Burns is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington–Seattle, a fellow with UW's Simpson Center for the Humanities, and formerly a research assistant with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. His research is focused on the social and political implications of new mapping, mass collaboration, and spatial data production technologies. Specifically, he looks at how these technologies are being used to inform humanitarian management strategies, the uneven geographies this integration produces, and how policymakers can adapt to this new interface with the public. I hold degrees from Eastern Kentucky University (B.A., 2006, magna cum laude) and San Diego State University (M.S., 2009), both in geography.
