Rebecca Baker (she/they) received her Master's degree from Western Washington University in 2017, after having worked abroad as an EFL instructor for many years. She is currently an English PhD student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, pursuing a degree with dual emphases in Cognitive Science and Information, Technology, and Society. Rebecca is broadly interested in cultural constructions of scientific discourses – including science fiction. Her work is situated at the intersections of Science and Technology Studies, Critical and Media Infrastructure students, and the Environmental Humanities, with an emphasis on decolonial politics, marginal voices, and the biocognitive turn in our cultural understanding of what it means to be human.
Rebecca’s research is currently centered on popular science and science fictional representations of human futures in space, with a focus on the critical infrastructure and importance of narrative in speculative world building.
