Ashwini Falnikar is an Mphil student with the School of Media and Cultural Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. For her Mphil work, she is studying women’s blogging practices in India. Her research interests include films, popular culture and the Internet. More specifically she is interested in exploring resistance with respect to gender and class. She has previously worked in visual media communication for non-profit sector, community empowerment and rehabilitation projects. She has also written for a popular children’s comics magazine in India called Tinkle, owned by Amar Chitra Katha, which translates as Immortal Graphic Stories. She was a video editor for the WAVE project—Women Aloud Video-blogging for Empowerment, in 2010, which was funded by McArthur Foundation. She enjoys blogging, where she experiments with illustrations, and hopes that all those illustrations will eventually make the big picture.
