Full Bio:

Ashley O’Mara is a PhD student in English at Syracuse University. She studies the queer aesthetics of Catholicism during and after the English Reformation. This research gives special attention to how Catholicism’s institutional celibacy shaped anti-Catholic discourses at the same time that it afforded a space for non-normative sexual and asexual desires. Her studies are informed by medieval and Renaissance mysticism and recent developments in feminism, asexuality, and queer studies. She is a 2016–2017 HASTAC scholar and a curator and contributor with Six Degrees of Francis Bacon, specializing in Jesuit missionary networks. In the past, she has taught a sophomore composition class on gender and the politics of world religions, and is currently teaching ETS 113: Survey of British Literature, Beginnings to 1789.
