Allison Guess
Personal Information
Allison Guess is a doctoral student focusing on critical (Black) geographies in the program of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The Graduate Center at CUNY. Currently, Allison is a Doctoral Futures Initiative Fellow at The Graduate Center at CUNY. Previously, Allison earned a double major in Political Science and Hispanic Languages and Literature from the University of Pittsburgh. She has studied Latin American Cultures, Languages and Political Economy in Brazil, Cuba and Mexico. Allison has extensive research and community development experience, most recently from her work with The Black/Land Project which seeks to amplify black people's relationships to land and Outdoor Afro, a national organization dedicated to reconnecting black people with the great outdoors. Allison's research centers on the phenomenon of Black Land in the Western Hemishphere, Black people's relationships to land and place specifically as they relate to racial capitalism, settler colonialism and anti-black racism.
