Full Bio:

Adam P. Newman is a doctoral candidate (ABD) in the Department of English at Emory University and a Woodruff Library/Emory Center for Digital Scholarship Fellow in Digital Humanities. His research interests include nineteenth- and twentieth-century American and African-American literature, disability studies, critical pedagogy, and the digital humanities. His dissertation project examines the complex intersection of race, gender, and disability in scenarios of interracial dependence and caregiving depicted in nineteenth-century American literature and culture. Outside of his dissertation research, he has a long-standing interest in the ways that new technologies can make classrooms and other spaces in academia more inclusive of all possible users, including those with disabilities. Most recently, this interest culminated in his development of a program to make the annual conference of the Society for Disability Studies more accessible via coordinated live-tweeting. Currently, as part of his fellowship with the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, he also serves as an associate editor of Atlanta Studies, an open-access interdisciplinary scholarly journal and blog on the Atlanta metropolitan area.
