Abby R. Broughton is a current Ph.D. student in the Department of French & Italian at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She received her M.A. in French Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2015 after successfully defending a thesis entitled “L’esthétique de l’abject: goût et dégoût dans La Mort propagande d’Hervé Guibert.” She received her B.A. from North Carolina’s Elon University in 2011 with majors in French and International Studies. Following graduation, she moved to Montpellier, France, where she taught English in preschool and elementary schools throughout the Languedoc region as part of the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF).
Current research interests include Second Language Studies, digital technologies in the language classroom, digital humanities. 20th century queer literature, specifically the presence and role of feminine sexuality, the erotic and explicit portrayals of the body. Other interests include theater across the centuries and the intersection of art and literature.
