One-year appointment, non-renewable, competitive salary and benefits, for a visiting assistant professor of digital and new media art at Davidson College. Digital art at Davidson explores the contemporary technologies that shape daily life, focusing on creative production, critical making, and digital culture. Artists should demonstrate a history of creative work and a commitment to undergraduate education. Responsibilities include teaching five courses (split 2/3 over two semesters), including introduction to digital art and courses based on specialization of candidate hired.
Specialty should include one or more areas of new media: interactive installation, transmedia art, robotics, data art, physical computing, or a similar creative field.
MFA required. Teaching experience preferred. Interest in developing or implementing curriculum related to diverse populations and ability to teach studio art foundation is desirable. Preference will be given to artists with a broad understanding of contemporary trends in digital and new media Art, including its history, theory, and practice. Interest in cross-disciplinary work with other institutional departments is also desirable.
