Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism and New Media
We invite applications for a Visiting full-time faculty position in journalism and new media at Whittier College, beginning September 1, 2015. The position is for one year, with the potential for additional employment. The VAP will teach writing and advise student media at Whittier, which includes the 100-year old student newspaper The Quaker Campus, KPOET radio, Video Production Studios, and POETTV. We encourage applicants with a vision for the future of new media studies at liberal arts colleges; such a vision may include re-thinking the paper’s form and online presence, as well as streamlining and re-articulating the different outlets’ digital and editorial relationships. The ideal candidate will combine journalistic and editorial experience, online and off, with excellence in, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching. Teaching responsibilities will include journalism classes, lower division courses in writing, and advising student media organizations. The position will be supervised by Whittier’s English department, and will work closely with the writing program, Whittier’s Digital Liberal Arts program, and Student Life.
To apply, please send a single pdf file which includes CV, two clips, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for professional references to Tony Barnstone, Chair of English, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
