JOB TITLE: Program Assistant, TechWomen
REPORTS TO: Director of Corporate Partnerships
Along with the Director of Corporate Partnerships, the Program Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of the Anita Borg Institute’s contribution to the TechWomen program. The position reports to the Director of Corporate Partnerships and works closely with the Vice President of Programs and the program and business development teams. Externally, the Program Assistant will work closely with our TechWomen partners at the Institute of International Education as well as the program participants.
Bringing the power of global business, technology, and education together, TechWomen pairs women in Silicon Valley with their counterparts in the Middle East and North Africa for a professional mentorship and exchange program at leading technology companies. The primary functions for this role will be to support mentor recruitment efforts, manage the mentor application and matching process, and work with our corporate partners and participating Mentors to support the mentorship program. TechWomen is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), and implemented in partnership with the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. ￼￼
Identify, customize and test an appropriate online tool for Technical and Cultural Mentor applications. Support mentor recruitment process including outreach through newsletters, online communities and social media as well as through calls to companies and individuals. Collaborate with committed companies and Mentors, securing signed Statements of Work and working with hosts to support arrangements for their Mentee/s. Support orientation and workshop development and logistics as needed. Work closely with the Anita Borg Institute program team to coordinate logistics for the TechWomen participants’ inclusion in the Grace Hopper Celebration conference. Help monitor and contribute content to the TechWomen online communities such as the wiki and groups as well as other social media. Maintain the program participants’ contact information and distribute group communications. Manage work with colleagues, our program implementation partner, and external organizations and participants as required to carry out program activities and meet deliverables. Maintain open and accessible communications among the various parties involved. Other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
The Program Assistant should be collaborative and customer service oriented. The ideal candidate will bring experience working on programs and events, with strong skills in project management, customer relations, and working with software or online products. The ideal candidate for this position is well-organized, highly motivated, people-oriented and excited to be part of a growing nonprofit organization. S/he shares a passion for women and technology.
This is a perfect job for a candidate who may be looking to do work that is more meaningful and mission-based, while enjoying a flexible work schedule that is based in Palo Alto and includes telecommuting. Travel to the Grace Hopper Celebration, to be held October 3–5, 2012, in Baltimore, MD, and to Washington, DC, the following week is required, and international travel to the Middle East and North Africa is possible in fall 2012. The position is grant funded until December 31, 2012, or until completion, at which point this position will no longer be available. The position may be renewed depending on funding.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
Bachelor’s Degree preferred A minimum of two years of experience desired, especially handling multiple tasks in an entrepreneurial setting Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Strong and effective communication skills, both written and verbal English Proficient in technology tools needed for program work as well as remote work and telecommuting such as Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, survey platforms, application or registration tools, and Salesforce Understanding of technical fields and the technology or related industries is preferred Knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa region, culture or languages is a plus Professional, versatile and collaborative with a committed work ethic Dedication and passion for learning and communicating the Anita Borg Institute’s and TechWomen’s missions and visions The Anita Borg Institute champions women technologists and the key roles they play in technical innovation.
