English Rhetoric/Composition

Spelman College seeks a teacher-scholar dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, be able to contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, mentoring and advising, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured position for Assistant or Associate Professor of Rhetoric / Composition faculty position beginning August 2017. Responsibilities include teaching in the general education core and developing new courses in writing and/or writing studies for the revised English major. Upon hire, candidate will begin a limited rotation as Director of the Comprehensive Writing Program.  

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition or related field with specialization in one or more of the following areas: African American Rhetoric, Multimedia Literacies, or Writing across the Curriculum. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue through December 1, 2016.
