Title: Specialist II-III (two positions)
Salary Range: $70,810-$79,178
Duties and Responsibilities:The appointee will fill the role of Assessment Specialist. S/he will provide the Hall with leadership and expertise regarding the development, validation, and implementation of learning assessments and the role that they play in educational evaluation and research. The appointee will: design assessments and assessment systems, lead and coordinate the development of assessment items, conduct and support research examining the quality, validity, and reliability of the assessments; guide collaborations with external assessment developers and evaluators; consult with external groups in the design of science and mathematics assessments; write reports; design and coordinate data collection activities; develop and administer assessments; pilot, score, and revise assessment instruments; develop and refine scoring rubrics; supervise student scorers; lead and participate in scoring moderation; provide content expertise for scorers; advise and consult regarding existing related research; advise regarding the use of existing assessment instruments; develop and write funding proposals both independently and in collaboration with staff from LHS and other institutions; present and publish research results; foster partnerships with academic and institutional researchers; and contribute to the development of the Center.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in science education, learning, assessment and/or science. At least 10 years experience in science education and/or assessment development. Knowledge of current research and issues in science learning and science assessment for K-12 students both in and out of school. Knowledge of best practices in science assessment development and scoring processes. Experience with science assessment development and evaluation in K-12 education. Experience collaborating with psychometricians in service of assessment development. Experience collaborating with assessment, research, and evaluation partners. Experience developing assessment scoring rubrics, protocols and processes. Experience managing large-scale science assessment scoring processes, including training and supervising diverse scorers. PREFERRED: Survey development and administration experience. Data collection, management, and analysis experience. Project management experience.

Total Duration of Appointment: One year, renewable upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.
