Job opening that just came across my desk; hopefully a HASTACer is their next Community Manager! See below.
"Effective use of Earth science data and information systems involves on-going communication, application and evolution of many best practices across a distributed community. One of the prominent Foundation for Earth Science’s (FES) communities is the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP Federation, esipfed.org). ESIP is a broad-based, distributed community of science, data and information technology practitioners who come together at the grass-roots level, reducing the time and barriers to implementing system changes and adopting technologies that allow for cross-community interoperability, increased data usage and additional societal benefits.
FES is seeking applicants to join our core team in the position of Community Manager. The Community Manager will coordinate the volunteer efforts of more than 160 organizations drawn largely from the ESIP Federation, and support the organization of at least two national ESIP meetings per year. The Community Manager is expected to be passionate about Earth science informatics community, self-motivated and able to operate independently and effectively in a work environment based largely on the use of communications technology rather than daily face-to-face interactions.
This is an outstanding opportunity to be a connector, enabling Earth science informatics through collaboration. Therefore, first and foremost, the community manager must be committed to the mission of ESIP. Undergraduate or graduate degree required in informatics, Earth/environmental sciences, communications, information and library science, or related areas and/or experience.
This position may be remotely based or co-located in Boulder, CO with FES Executive Director. Access to a major transportation hub and robust Internet connectivity is essential. This position is likely to be part time, but full time is possible for the right candidate.
Applications should be sent confidentially, electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications received before Friday, February 20, 2015 will receive first consideration. The position will remain open until filled."
