The Texts and Technology Ph.D. program (tandt.cah.ucf.edu) at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a tenure-earning assistant professor position to begin in August 2016. This will be a shared position between the Texts and Technology Ph.D. program and a department within the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) that matches the background and strengths of the candidate. The successful candidate will be involved in both areas, with the tenure home residing in the appropriate CAH department. This is a 9-month position with an expected teaching load (pre-tenure) of five courses per academic year, with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is pending budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will have a research specialization in the digital humanities. This could include areas such as GIS; spatial humanities; analysis, interpretation and visualization of large data sets; data mining; discourse analysis using digital tools; user-centered or participatory design; usability research; hardware development; or development of mobile device interfaces. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at both the undergraduate level (i.e., in a CAH department, in the digital humanities minor) and at the graduate level (i.e., in the Texts and Technology Ph.D. program, in a CAH department). Dissertation and thesis direction at the graduate and undergraduate levels will be expected, as will participation in program and course development. The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved with the Center for Humanities and Digital Research.
Position Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. or a terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in a field related to the Digital Humanities is required by the time of hire.
Preference may be given to candidates who also have demonstrated the following:
● Strong creative and/or scholarly work;
● Experience on interdisciplinary or collaborative publications, presentations, or projects;
● Proficiency in the use of digital tools, programs, or environments, including coding ability;
● A history of–or strong potential for–obtaining external funding;
● Effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
● A history of efforts to improve teaching effectiveness.
