Open-source projects are so important because they can become as strong as the community around them. The more people that get involved in developing and participating in open-source development projects, the more equitable and human-focused development projects will become.

I invite you to all participate in Hacktoberfest this month by submitting 4 pull requests to open-source projects throughout the month of October. Because Hacktoberfest is sponsored by DigitalOcean and GitHub, you can earn free swag in the process, but the more important takeaway is learning about open source and contributing to make the community better.

Join by visiting the official website here.

If you need to be brought up to speed on how to contribute to open source, check out the resources here.

I would love to see some Digital Humanities and Pedagogy projects benefiting from this. If you are a repository maintainer, use hacktoberfest to tag your issues to invite contributions.
