Call for Videos: Out the Window bus project

Call for Videos: Out the Window bus project
Monday, January 21, 2013 - 12:00am

Freewaves is seeking two-minute artists-activist-storytellers’ videos about health, environment, rights or anything else on your mind to show to one million riders per day on all 2000 Metro buses in LA County in 2013.  Videos may be animation, documentaries, narratives and experimental videos. We invite you to share your impressions, offer information and insights, and present issues relating to L.A. Taken together we hope to create a mosaic of our complex city.

The project aims to enrich the bus environment for riders through media offerings that coax them to explore what exists Out the Window in a new way.

Our first and second rounds happened in 2011. To see examples of the shown work visit www.out-the-window.org/videos.

Freewaves will pay $100-$400 per video.  ($100 for pre-existing, $200 for custom editing, $400 for newly commissioned works)  apply online at www.freewavesopencall.org by Jan 21, 2013.

This is an excellent continuation of the winning 2011 Digital Media and Learning Competition project- Out the Window: About/In/By Los Angeles. Read more about the initial project here and here.

The following description of Out the Window is from http://dmlcompetition.net/Competition/3/details.php?x=out-the-window

In Out the Window, youth collaboratively write and produce videos and TV screen banners that explore aspects of their families, blocks, streets, and neighborhoods. These geo-coded messages are transmitted on TV screens on the 2200 LA Metro buses that travel throughout the city, transforming the buses into mobile learning labs that serve the 7 million Los Angelinos that travel these routes every week, many of whom represent a population sometimes not reached by the internet and new media. These multi-platform works will challenge and enable youths and riders to connect media, interpretations and place.
