Call for submissions to the NCA Online Writing (NOW) Retreat: July 10-16
Do you have a manuscript gathering (digital) dust?
A syllabus you’ve begun but not yet finished?
The start (but not end) of a grant proposal?
A research initiative that could use a second set of eyes?
A popular press think-piece that hasn’t moved beyond the outline stage?
A conference presentation that isn’t quite polished?
Would you enjoy hearing successful writers talk about key features of the research and writing process?
Submit your works-in-progress to the National Communication Association Online Writing Retreat (NOW Retreat)!
Sponsored by the National Communication Association, the NOW Retreat is a FREE, fully-online workshop that intervenes into the often solitary and anxiety-producing process of writing. By participating, you will increase the quality of your research and writing, and strengthen your scholarly network.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS: You don’t have to be somewhere or purchase anything, and there is no formal program or presentation of your work. After being assigned to a small group we call your “pod,” you set your own agenda for digitally-facilitated discussion, peer-review, and feedback throughout the week. You have access to a curated collection of valuable resources, and are invited to tune into webinars offered by three excellent scholars who will share their insights on key aspects of scholarly life.
DATES: July 10-16, 2016
HOW TO SUBMIT: All submissions require a 150 word abstract, 3-5 keywords, brief description of the project, and approximate page count. Please limit the length of your submission to no longer than 35 double-spaced pages. For longer submissions, please select only key passages or excerpts. The NOW Retreat submission portal will open on May 2, 2016 and will close May 23, 2016. No submissions will be accepted after the submission portal closes.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: The NOW Retreat is open to all who are interested in participating in a free exchange of new ideas or works-in-progress, focused critique, and dynamic deliberation. In particular, it is designed to serve junior scholars and graduate students who would benefit from more opportunities to attend to their writing and research, especially in a low-cost low-risk, flexible environment.
