Call for Participants: Different Games Conference 2018

Friday, October 12, 2018 - 1:00am to Sunday, October 14, 2018 - 1:00am

Different Games, the first conference on inclusivity and diversity in games, invites participants for its 2018 edition, now sponsored by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), located in Worcester, MA on Friday October 12 through Sunday October 14 on the WPI campus.

Critical voices from across the games community— including designers, activists, researchers, educators, journalists and others— are invited to present new and recent work as part of our three-day program.

Submission Formats

Paper Presentations and Talks

We invite academics and creative minds alike to share recent work (written or otherwise) as speakers on our conference panels. We encourage participants from every field to submit writing or talks exploring topics pertaining to diversity and inclusion. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to: post mortems, design methodology, reflections on playtesting, analysis/commentary on games content (theme, gender, sexuality, etc.), game reception, and game culture/communities.

Pre-constituted Panels

We invite topic specific panels that align with the Different Games Conference's mission of cultivating inclusivity and diversity in gaming communities and gaming culture.

We invite topic specific or exploratory discussions on challenges and solutions for promoting diversity and inclusion in the broader game community/communities and other pertinent subjects. Hands-on workshop sessions geared towards learning design and development skills are also invited.

We invite designers to submit their games for inclusion in the Different Games Arcade. We welcome students’ work and and games that are early (i.e., beta/play-testing stages) or further along in the development process. Analog games, non screen-based digital games and other types of media such as short films, installations or interactive art related to the themes of the conference are welcome as well.
