HASTAC Digital History Review Series

Nominations due Sept.1, 2016.

Submissions due Nov.15, 2016.

It has now been a year since the American Historical Association published their “Guidelines for the Professional Evaluation of Digital Scholarship by Historians” (June, 2015), and fifteen years since the Organization of American Historians published the first “Website Review” (2001). Styled after the OAH’s “Digital History Reviews” edited by Jeffrey W. McClurken for the Journal of American History, the HASTAC Digital History Group invites reviews of digital history projects for a Fall -Winter Series.

The HASTAC Digital History Reviews Series will get you noticed while you hone the skill of writing DH reviews. The series is intended to build community among practitioners, share new developments in digital scholarship, and provide space to practice writing in the format and style of the flagship academic journals in our field. At the end of the series, JAH editor Jeffrey W. McClurken will provide a guest comment on the  series of reviews published on the Digital History Group’s page!

Do not miss this chance to share your ideas. Nominations for reviewers (you may nominate yourself) and digital history projects to be reviewed (you may not review a project you are directly involved with) should be sent to:

Nomination: Please send: 1) your name, CV, and email contact information, and 2) the title and links to 1-2 DH projects, that you are not directly involved with, which you would like to review by September 1, 2016. If you do not have any specific project in mind but would still like to write a review, contact us and we will try to assign you a project to review. You will receive notification of acceptance on or before October 1.

Submission: Upon notification of acceptance, reviews are due by November 15, 2016. Reviews will then be published weekly on the HASTAC Digital History Group site through February, 2017.

Format: Reviews are 500 words in length and should include multimedia content (images, screen shots, user navigation videos, etc). For further information on the format, please consult the OAH’s Digital History Review’s guidelines

Please contact HASTAC Digital History Group Administrators Tina Davidson and Ben Weber with any questions about review submissions:
