Experimental Humanities (EH) is Bard College’s liberal arts-driven answer to the Digital Humanities, based in our interdisciplinary curriculum and our vibrant Center for EH. EH emphasizes both “new” media technologies and the reconsideration of “old” media in the study of what it means to be human, and explores the role of experimentation in humanistic scholarship, learning, and the arts. More information about Experimental Humanities and its activities can be found at http://eh.bard.edu.
The Center for Experimental Humanities (CEH) seeks a creative and detail-oriented Associate Director to manage its day-to-day activities and help guide the future directions of our lively center. The Associate Director will serve as a public face of the CEH and must be able to work in a range of environments, manage diverse duties, and oversee a number of projects simultaneously. In particular, the Associate Director will engage with faculty and students from a range of disciplines to help develop and guide thoughtfully designed scholarly, pedagogical, and artistic projects using a variety of platforms, and foster and sustain productive relationships across the campus. This hire will supervise a Media Corps of undergraduates who conduct in-class workshops and provide peer-to-peer technology tutoring on campus. The Associate Director will also oversee the administrative work of the CEH, including managing its budget and equipment library and maintaining an active social media presence for the Center. The successful candidate will be encouraged to continue their own research and/or artistic practice, and to bring these interests into dialogue with other EH projects. The Associate Director must also be an educator at heart, enthusiastic about teaching technology skills to new users; their academic credentials must support the expectation of offering one “practice-rich” course per year in the undergraduate college.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis; review will begin on June 1. The projected start date for this position is August 15, 2018. For more information about the search or EH, contact Maria Sachiko Cecire at email@example.com.
