POSITION DESCRIPTION

The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). This is a full-time position with a 9-month service period.

QUALIFICATIONS

We seek an interdisciplinary, intellectually expansive, community-engaged Rhetoric and Composition scholar with a strong research agenda and demonstrated success in teaching to diverse student populations.

The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher of rhetoric and composition with a portfolio that includes first year composition.

The candidate should demonstrate critical approaches to pedagogy and scholarship to critique dominant discourses. The successful candidates will be expected to teach existing courses at the undergraduate and master’s level and develop new courses in their area of specialization that contribute to starting a new rhetoric and composition track for a thriving writing studies major. Interest in assessment, multiple classroom literacies, or program administration is welcome.

The University of Washington Tacoma supports candidates who work collaboratively to increase student engagement and achievement, mentor undergraduate and graduate research for conferences and publishing, develop study abroad courses and international teaching and research projects, and form mutually beneficial community partnerships.

The position begins September 16, 2019, and at the time of appointment requires an earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field. Rhetoric and composition publications in hand desired.  Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation will be appointed on an acting basis.

The Tacoma campus of the University of Washington was founded in 1990 with an interdisciplinary approach at its core.
