HASTAC is pleased to partner with the Futures Initiative to offer a platform for shared resources, reflections, and events that support the core values of intellectual freedom and education as a public good at a moment when they are severely threatened.
Higher education is under attack on many fronts—and yet it also needs massive transformation. This series looks in both directions at once, renewing support for education as a civic good while also advocating educational reform.
One element of this initiative is a series of livestreamed workshops and discussions designed to tie student-centered, engaged pedagogical practices to institutional change and social justice. We pay special attention to race, gender, diversity, equity, and inequality—and to rethinking the higher education we so urgently need now. We will share details on HASTAC about how to participate in each conversation that we host centrally.
In addition, all HASTAC members are invited to contribute to this conversation by joining this group and posting calls to action, reflections, resources, and events related to the theme or the spirit of the series as a whole. Topics might include intellectual freedom, federally-funded research programs, net neutrality, data and surveillance, public education (K-12 and beyond), racism and xenophobia, immigrants' rights, women’s rights, LGBTQIA rights, economic inequality, decolonization, reparations, abolition, accessibility, environmental studies, media responsibility and accuracy, and arts and humanities funding as they pertain to our work and goals within higher education.
We will help publicize the resources, reflections, and events that you share and make them a part of the University Worth Fighting For as we work together to fight for the values of equity, intellectual freedom, and education as a public good.
