Given the recent rise of the "selfie," both as a phenomenon and as a site for critical analysis following its designation of 2013's Word of the Year, we are interested in examining both its utility in projects of self-representation. What seems especially interested is the ways in which the selfie has recently been deployed as a political tool, one through which marginalized groups can draw attention to the discursive structures that create that marginalization.
