I did my BA in Journalism at Ural State University in Yekaterinburg, Russia's fourth largest city. In 2009 I moved to Canada to pursue an MA in Women’s Studies. Currently I am a PhD Candidate in Gender, Feminist and Women’s Studies at York University in Toronto.
My research is focused on organizational and interactional dynamics within social media environments. More specifically, my dissertation explores how self-identified feminist bloggers from Canada and the US experience, resist and attach meanings to disruptive responses from their audiences. As well, I consider whether the nature and scope of such responses constitutes a backlash against feminist blogging, and whether the term ‘backlash’ is an appropriate conceptual tool for understanding dis/engagements in affective participation.
I also coordinate social media accounts for Feral Feminisms, an open-access peer-reviewed journal.
