Looking For Collaborators For Establishment Of CivicLab In Chicago

Greetings fellow HASTACers! I'm in Chicago where I''ve been an organizer and educator for over 20 years. I've been dedicated to civic education, protecting the commons and activiating people to take leadership roles in public life. Locally, I'm probably best known as one of the organizers of No Games Chicago, a campaign that worked to defeat the bid for the 2016 Olympics. Now I'm seeking to launch The CivicLab (http://www.civiclab.us), a store front space for activists and educators to meet, to do research, to teach and to build CivicLabtools for civic engagement.

We want to be a meeting place, a lab, a lounge and a learning center for civic engagement. We want to bring activists and hacktivists together. We want to be an outpost for academic programs in journalism, policy and design. We want to a be a co-learning or maker space where we teach one another. We want to offer entertainment and cultural activities that help propel civic engagement.

If you would like to be part of this project and you are in or near Chicago, please join us on Saturday, June 16 for a design hack - see http://www.civiclab.us/2012/04/design-hack for details. For more info, please email @ tom@tresser.com.
