HASTAC, the academic year is over and it's time to learn play. Put down those books, pick up a game remote and try out Discovery Inc, a project developed by one of our 2010 DML Competition Game Changer winners, now available and free-to-play on the Playstation Network.
It's hard to paraphrase Josh's enthusiasm for completing this work (and surpassing goals) and launching 15 levels today, so I'm including his announcement in its entirety here. A full round of congratulations to the Discovery Inc. team!
For those with access to Playstations, send gameplay feedback to Josh directly through his contact info listed below.
Hello everyone! Josh Hughes here from Add-A-Tudez Entertainment Company! We have some very exciting news--but before I get to that please, if you haven't already, head over to http://on.fb.me/jpN3tW and vote for us in the Sony competition we're in on FaceBook--we're in 3rd place right now (16 votes behind 1st) and just need to stay in the top 5 for 4 more days to advance to judging! Now for the big news:
1 year ago, we were honored with a grant from HASTAC and The MacArthur Foundation that charged us with making 10 levels for LittleBigPlanet 2 (www.littlebigplanet.com) that would teach Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math through the use of rides and roller coasters. This was huge because, as the crew bent on turning Great Falls, Montana into the Park City of the game industry, we had just brought Great Falls' first paid game design gig in.
Well, we didn't *exactly* deliver on that. Reason I say that is we actually created more content than 10 levels can hold so we are proud to announce our 15 Level Free-To-Play LBP2 Pack has just been launched on the PlayStation Network!
Best part? Players don't have to find 15 separate levels! They just have to go to the following link: http://lbp.me/v/0s-btf and sign in with their PlayStation Network ID and add the level to their queue. Next time they sign into LittleBigPlanet 2 they'll automatically be reminded to play the introductory level! Alternatively, they can search for the level Welcome to Discovery Inc.! made by the user ID TK-Crew. After the introductory level, players are taken to a 'park map' that looks like an overhead view of a park, where they can go to separate levels and ride coasters and rides. Once done with a section of a park, players are seamlessly returned to the park map, taking 15 separate levels and turning them into one cohesive experience we are pitching as LittleBigPlanet 2's first true amusement park!
Please share the following QR code with anyone interested too! If they take a picture of it with their smart phone, they'll be sent info on the level. They can also print it off and hold it up to the PlayStation Eye camera on their PlayStation 3 system to access the level:
This level pack was a year in the making and required the Team KAIZEN crew to push their skills to the limit in regards to LittleBigPlanet design. We got to work with some amazing people over the course of the past year, including Great Falls based actors Richard Dunbar (who plays Planks in the pack) and Liz Wallen-Absher (who plays Roxie). The project also opened doors for us as we've begun talks with groups such as the US Department of Education and other non-profits to create additional LittleBigPlanet content and beyond, and it was an extreme honor to be a part of HASTAC's Digital Media Learning Competition GameChangers Winners--we will never forget it and we hope you enjoy the level pack! Please let us know any suggestions/comments you may have!
Josh Hughes, Trevor Hughes and everyone at Add-A-Tudez Entertainment Company and Team KAIZEN
PS: When on the scooters in the Park Map section of the park, try inputting (on the D-Pad) Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right and Jump with the X Button and see what happens :-) We couldn't make an official project without hiding secrets in it!
