A Short Message From a Senior During These Crazy Times

A Short Message From a Senior During These Crazy Times

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted - I’m sure everyone knows why. I hope everyone is staying safe and sane in the midst of the crazy that has taken over the world. It’s a time of uncertainty, anxiety, and fear. It has disrupted our daily lives in a way that no one alive has experienced before. Schools, restaurants, and entire cities have shut down as we all work together to slow down this invisible invader.

I am a part of a small group of college seniors who lost the last few months at school. For some, it may not be a big deal. They live in non-university owned apartments on campus with their friends, most of their classes were online anyway, or it really was just school for them. I’m not saying any of these cases are bad, but they are different from what students at DePauw and other smaller schools are experiencing. We have left our second home, left all of our lifelong friends, and left our professors who have become like family to us. We don’t have anymore years left to go back, and we were barely ready to leave after graduation.

I know that leaving and staying at home is absolutely necessary to protect members of our communities who are at risk, but it doesn’t mean it’s not sad. I’m writing this just as update because it’s been hard for me to write/do work in the midst of all of this crazy. It has just now started to feel somewhat normal to me.

To those of you who have moved to online/remote learning, I am thinking of you - I know how much your students mean to you and trust me, your students are missing you too. We will get through all of this together, and I hope the world will be a little better when we all come back together again. My comments are always open for everyone!

Stay safe and I’ll have more posts soon!

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for this and all your HASTAC posts.  Good luck to you and congratulations on your upcoming graduation.  I keep telling people that, for as long as we live, we will remember where we were and what we were doing in this time of a global health crisis and we will remember those who were kind and generous.  You have been in these posts and I bet IRL too.  That is a gift to all.  Be well, take care, and good luck finishing the term and all your school work.  And all the very best of luck to you!

Dear Cathy,

Thank you for your kind reply! This has been a difficult time, but I'm so thankful to be apart of the HASTAC community to keep me connected. I'm excited to finish up my thesis, and hopefully continue posting as I continue my eduation. Take care and thank you for your constant support through out this project. It has meant the world to me.
