I saw Adam P. Summers and Sierra Nelson present some of these images and poems live a couple of months ago. Basically, the scientist and poet decided to collaborate instead of putting conventional captions under the images.
I'm interested in interdiscinplinary collaborative work (developing writing projects with others and teaching my students to do the same), so I like checking out work like "Cleared: the Art of Science" that productively pairs people from different fields. The exhibit is worth checking out if you're in Seattle and feeling aquarium-minded.
Here's a link to the Seattle Aquarium's info on the exhibit.
