Digital Art Therapy for Students and Teachers with Special Needs

Crayon Fort, Carmel, CA

In grad school, I took some art therapy classes and fell in love with the field. My fav rock star of art therapy whose work I admire is Viktor Lowenfeld. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1960. He did incredible work in the fields of child development and education. He developed a theory of stages in artistic development and he worked a lot with students with special needs. I particulary love his work with students who were visually impaired. As such, at the libarary, I read many of his articles and really got inspired as a teacher. Sometimes I daydream about what I would ask him if I could have met him. His work deserves further look and his ideas can be further explored especially with regard to his visual-haptic theory. I would love to further research his ideas. I would love to research digital art therapy in helping individuals with special needs express themselves.
