The theme of today's conference is innovation. Dr. Stovall challenges this concept - innovation for what? Is it in the interest of neoliberal capitalism OR the greater common good?
I appreciate how Dr. Stovall complicates a lot of what many of us take for granted in terms of higher education. "The moment you think of education as your place for affirmation, you have lost." In this, he is challenging us to think about our assumptions in our life paths and goals.
Dr. Stovall goes on; teachers, for example, are so often under attack - instead, let's look at what kinds of systems teachers are teaching in. Neoliberalism pushes us to individualize things. Who has been possessed and dispossessed in this system?
